FROM THE LINER NOTES OF "YOU'LL HATE THIS RECORD":
With the exception of the very different GG ALLIN, no band on this album has gotten more bad reviews than TINA PEEL.
Basically there are two reasons:
First, the band is not faddish. They play pop music in a time when you are only "allowed" to sound like Donna Sommers, Van Halen or Black Flag. Second, they sing about sex.
Since the "straight edge" movement began in D.C., sex has been taboo even for punks. If you sing about it at all, you have to hate it.
Sly innuendo is allowed in disco songs - But to be blatant and funny?
Unless you're Frank Zappa, never!
And look at Frank Zappa! About as hip as penny loafers.
The two songs on this album, WANG IT! and EXCEPTION TO THE RULER are about penises, taken from a TINA PEEL limited edition cassette, "EXTRA KICKS." There are three other songs about penises on the cassette.
Even SCREW magazine hated them, saying:
"These guys are far more interested in their cocks than they have any right to expect the rest of us to be."
Here's what other magazines had to say:
NEW YORK ROCKER: "Horrid thin power pop - the kind that gave it a bad name in '78."
UNICORN TIMES: "Silly floozy."
DESCENES: "The banality of the group's songwriting belie(s) any "teen appeal" the group might want to suggest (unless by "teens" the group means those adolescent slopeheads who go for Aerosmith and Bad Company. As humourless as they are obvious."
And my favorite from ZIG ZAG magazine:
"An atrocious piece of crap played with minimal musical skill and sung with the conviction of a deaf mute."
Recorded live at Hurrah, NYC - 1978?

EXCEPTION TO THE RULER
(B. Reinhold/R. Protrudi/H. Mancini) GEMA
I was born a tiny morsel
All I want's a bigger porkel
All the girls laugh and giggle
Not enough to even wiggle
In the movies they have big ones
They're the guys who have all the fun
I bought a pump so I could stretch it
I hoped a girl would come and fetch it (here boy!)
I hoped that it would really fool her
You know what she said?
An exception to the ruler
They all tell me they can't feel it
Is it in? Did someone steal it?
It's even small when it's a boner
I wish that I could find a donor
I've heard guys have gotten transplants
Did it help them get in girl's pants?
I went out and bought a male extension
Just to get the girl's attention
I was hoping it would really fool her
You know what she said?
She said "n exception to the ruler!"
